Inaugurated in 1842, the Jardim da Estrela was commissioned by the Marquês de Tomar, who had the support of generous private donations, and planted by gardeners Bonard and João Francisco.
Surrounded by railings, it has five entrances and includes a belvedere and a magnificent iron-wrougth brandstand mounted on a masonry basis, which was formerly set up in the Passeio Público de Lisboa, nowadays Avenida da Liberdade.
