Diz-se que, em meados do séc. XVI, o ilustre poeta português Luís de Camões (1524-1580), viveu em Macau durante dois anos, onde terá terminado, nesta gruta, a sua famosa obra épica OS Lusíadas. Com o patrocínio de 600 francos de um rico comerciante português de Macau, Loureço Marques, genro de Manuel Pereira, a gruta foi renovada em 1849, sendo aí colocado um busto do poeta. O Jardim Luís de Camões situa-se numa colina conhecida no início por “Colina Féníx” devido às árvores (Delonix regia) que ali existiam anteriormente e que eram originárias de Malaca. Estas árvores foram introduzidas em Macau por um comerciante português. Cabo da Roca  ( Cape Roca ) is a  cape  which forms the  westernmost extent  of mainland  Portugal  and continental  Europe  (and by definition the Eurasian land mass ). The cape is in the  Portuguese  municipality of  Sintra , west of the district of  Lisbon , forming the westernmost extent of the Serra de Sintra . Cabo da Roca was known to the  Romans  as  Promontorium Magnum [1]  and during the  Age of Sail  as the Rock of Lisbon. The 16th century Portuguese poet  Luís de Camões  described Cabo da Roca as the place "where the land ends and the sea begins" ( Portuguese : Onde a terra se acaba e o mar começa ). The cape is located within the  Sintra-Cascais Natural Park , 42 kilometres northwest of the urbanized area of  Lisbon  and 18 kilometres northwest of  Sintra .
