            A Praça do Império está numa das zonas nobres de Lisboa, em frente ao maravilhoso Mosteiro dos Jerónimos e ao Centro Cultural de Belém. Esta praça e jardim foi projetada pelo arquiteto Cottinelli Telmo para a Exposição do Mundo Português de 1940, nas comemorações do 8º Centenário da Independência de Portugal e os 300 anos da restauração da Independência, num ato nacionalista e de propaganda do regime Salazarista.           A passagem por este jardim é um roteiro quase obrigatório de quem visita Lisboa que, pelas suas dimensões e pela sua beleza faz as delícias dos adultos e crianças que vão lá relaxar e passar um pouco do seu tempo. Belém, Lisbon - Portugal The lovely Praça do Império Garden is situated in one of the noble areas of the cosmopolitan Lisboa, right in front of the wonderful Jerónimos Monastery and of the big Belém Cultural Centre. When the Jerónimos Monastery was founded, back in the 16th century, this area where the Garden is nowadays situated was the so called “Restelo Beach”, as the river margin almost reached the Monastery. The Garden, built in a classical style of the Greek and Roman green areas, was projected and built by the time of the great “Portuguese world exhibition”, when were celebrated the 800th anniversary of the Portuguese Independence, in a nationalist and propaganda act of the ancient dictatorial regime. The Garden’s greatest highlight is the Monumental Fountain, also known as “Luminosa” (’luminous’), for the light effects made with lights and water that delight those who contemplate it. It is one of the must-visit spots of Douro estuary, an 18th century romantic garden by the river. It has several vegetal species with canopy trees and ornamental plants. Here you will find Obelisk-shaped chandeliers in forged iron, created by Nicolau Nasoni, as well as a metal gazebo. Desde la Plaza de Alfonso XIII, se puede contemplar una panorámica del mar Cantábrico y del paseo y los jardines dedicados al novelista cántabro José María de Pereda. This boulevard, built in the 19th century in the style of the Champs-Elysees in Paris, is the main avenue of the city. It runs north for a mile (1.6km) from Restauradores to Marquês de Pombal Square , and is more than 300 feet (90m) wide. Today the avenue still has a certain elegance with fountains and cafe tables shaded by trees, as well as a pavement decorated with abstract patterns.
